When anxiety becomes a problem
Some anxiety is normal and we will all experience it from time to time. Anxiety is in fact a hardwired response to danger which has ensured our survival as a species. However, anxiety becomes a problem when our brain perceives everyday normal situations or circumstances as a threat. It can spiral out of control and leave us in a constant state of fight or flight which impacts our every day lives.
You may experience just one or two of these symptoms or a range of them.
Constantly feeling on edge.
Anticipating the worst case scenarios happening.
Avoiding people or places, limiting what you feel you can do safely.
Being irritable and snappy with people.
Sense of dread.
Excessive worry.
Feeling disconnected from yourself and the world around you.
Feeling overwhelmed by small tasks.
Loss of appetite, issues with food and eating.
Physical symptoms such as muscle aches and pains, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, sweating, feeling dizzy, stomach issues, lump in throat, feeling sick, shaking, pins and needles, insomnia, fatigue and headaches.
Heightened state of awareness around your health and body.
Waiting in anticipation of the next anxiety/panic attack.
